X-Ray Scanning

X-ray scanning is an important process for removing dense foreign material such as stones, metal, soil and glass fragments.

X-ray scanning is an important process for removing dense foreign material such as stones, metal, soil and glass fragments from product. Product is passed under an x-ray source on a conveyor belt, and the rays are directed down through the product onto a detector array beneath the belt. In this way an x-ray shadow picture of the product is created and any denser pieces show up as dark spots on the picture, these are then rejected from the product flow. It is particularly useful where there is a contamination of broken glass in a product. Because of the translucent nature of glass, a colour sorter can often miss it as a contaminant whereas the x-ray will always see it as a dark dense object and reject it.

Like the colour sorters the x-ray is limited in the size of contaminant that it is able to detect, our x-ray has a 0.4mm pixel size in its detector array which is the highest resolution that is currently available.
